3/22/2025 Printing in Color (Theory and Practice)
Instructor: Brooke Frank
Saturday, March 22nd, 10am - 4pm (with break for lunch)
This is a one-day deep dive into the most essential concepts and skills you need to make the most of color in your work. Participants can expect to learn essential principles of color theory and how those principles translate into actual printmaking materials and practices. Through demos, examples, and hands-on monotype color experiments, participants will learn about direct color mixing, color layering, and setting up color relationships, as well as exploring the role of process and materials in getting the results they’re looking for.
Although the workshop is taught through monotype, the skills and techniques covered will be applicable to relief (woodcut and linocut), intaglio (drypoint and etching), collagraph, and other common printing processes involving the etching presses and oil-based ink. The color theory concepts addressed in the course will be applicable to screenprinting, painting, and any other color systems that involve mixing colored goo!
Brooke Frank approaches color from her background as a painter, and teaches about color with a strong commitment to ensuring that the information shared in the course can be put into practice immediately and built upon for years to come. This course is suitable for folks with any level of experience.
